Which food hygiene course do I need?
Choose by the work you do, not by how long you have worked with food.
- Level 1 food hygiene certificate, £10, about 2 hours. For wrapped food or front of house only: serving, clearing and bar work.
- Level 2 food hygiene certificate, £12, about 3 hours. For anyone who prepares, cooks or serves food. The usual choice for cooks and catering staff.
- Level 3 food hygiene certificate, £45, about 5.5 hours. For supervisors, head chefs and anyone running a kitchen.
Is a food hygiene certificate a legal requirement?
The law says food handlers must be trained or supervised in food hygiene to suit their work. It does not ask for a certificate, but a certificate is the simplest way to show an inspector the training happened. What UK food law actually says.
How long does a food hygiene certificate last?
Most businesses refresh food hygiene training every three years. When to take a refresher.
Can I do a food hygiene course online?
Yes. Every course here runs on a phone, tablet or computer, in 15 languages, and your certificate is ready the moment you pass.
