Fruit & Vegetable Sink
This sink is for washing produce only.
Free to download and print. No sign-up.
Why you need it
Food law requires facilities for washing food, where needed, to be separate from handwashing. Sharing a sink with dirty utensils or raw meat can move bacteria straight onto produce that may be eaten raw.
A clear sign stops the sink being used for whatever job is nearest.
What it’s for
A sign for the sink kept for washing fruit and vegetables: clean it before and after use, wash produce in clean running water where needed, move washed food to a clean container, and keep handwashing, utensils and raw meat out.
How to use it
- Fix it on the wall directly above the vegetable sink, facing whoever stands at it.
- If you only have one food sink, clean and disinfect it before washing produce and set out that arrangement in your safe method.
- Keep a clean colander or container beside the sink so washed produce does not touch the sink itself.
- Do not rewash bagged salad sold as ready to eat unless the pack tells you to.
- Use a wipe-clean sleeve or laminate it, since it will be splashed.
