Preventing Contamination
Ice Machine & Scoop Hygiene
Treat ice as food: a dedicated scoop kept outside the ice, and never a glass.

Why you need it
Ice goes straight into drinks with no further cooking, so anything on a hand, a glass or a dirty scoop goes straight to the customer. Ice machines can also build up dirt inside if they are not cleaned.
Ice that comes into contact with food or drink must be made from drinking-quality water and protected from contamination, just like any other food.
What it’s for
Four steps for safe ice: using drinking-quality water, a dedicated scoop instead of hands or glasses, storing the scoop in a clean holder outside the ice, and cleaning the whole system to schedule. It belongs on or beside the ice machine.
How to use it
- Stick it on or next to the ice machine in a wipe-clean sleeve.
- Use only the dedicated scoop, never your hands or a drinking glass.
- Return the scoop to its clean holder outside the ice after each use.
- Add the machine, bin and scoop to your cleaning schedule, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- If the ice may be contaminated, stop using it, discard it and clean the machine before making fresh ice.
