Nobody sets out to injure their back at work. It almost always happens on an ordinary day, lifting an ordinary load, in a way that felt fine at the time. This course exists to make the safe way the automatic way, so the injury never gets its chance.

🇬🇧 Written for the UK

MHOR 1992, the Avoid–Assess–Reduce hierarchy and the T.I.L.E. framework throughout.

This is practical training for any UK workplace where people lift, carry, push or pull. It’s built around the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and the T.I.L.E. risk-assessment framework built on HSE’s guidance, and it’s written to give you the confidence to move loads without paying for it later.

Who it’s for

  • Anyone who lifts, carries, pushes or pulls at work, from warehouses and shops to healthcare, construction and offices
  • Supervisors and managers who own the handling risk assessments
  • New starters in any role that involves moving loads by hand
  • No previous training needed, we start from scratch

What you’ll come away able to do

  • Recognise what really counts as manual handling, and how a bad lift damages the spine
  • Explain the law you work under: MHOR 1992 and the Avoid–Assess–Reduce hierarchy of control
  • Size up any task with T.I.L.E., plus a quick on-the-spot check before you lift
  • Pick the right mechanical aid, and know why pushing usually beats pulling
  • Work through a safe lift from start to finish, including team lifts and awkward loads

How the course works

Six short lessons, each broken into bite-sized topics with a quick game to help the ideas land. The lessons sit inside three modules, and each module ends with a 10-question assessment pulled at random from a bigger bank, so no two attempts are the same (80% to pass, three goes at each). At the end comes a final exam: 20 questions drawn from a pool of 40 covering the whole syllabus. Pass, and your CPD-standard certificate, complete with your name and a verifiable reference code, is issued on the spot and saved to My Account → Certificates.

Access runs for 12 months, on any device, with your certificate ready to download the moment you finish.

Worth being clear about: this is a knowledge-based awareness course. It backs up your training, but it doesn’t replace hands-on, task-specific practice or your workplace’s own manual handling risk assessment where those are required.
